My 5 Favorite Workout Exercises

Tuesday, December 16, 2014

Everyone has their favorites! And of course, I have mine too: plank, jump rope, squat jump, lateral raises, and twist shimmy. Even though I try to diversify my workouts, you can always find at least one of these in any of my workouts.

Considered one of the most effective core exercises, I've noticed that the key to flat abs is the plank. Whenever it is out of my rotation for too long, I can see my abs slowly pooch out. There are many variations of the plank to make it more challenging and work different parts of your abs.

I love jumping roping; it burns over 100 calories in 10 minutes and is more effective than running. A total body workout, it melts fat, boosts endurance, and will get you in the best shape of your life.

Squat Jump
Another calorie blaster, squat jumps work the butt, legs, calves, and even the core. It is consistently in my workouts because it is so effective. Common on the HIIT and tabata circuit, it is one of the best lower body exercises.

I hate lateral raises, but that's because my shoulders are one of the weakest parts of my body. But they make up for that in the end result. Lateral raises create sleek and defined arms and back.

Twist Shimmy
You don't need genetics or a corset to get an hourglass figure. Instead, consider the twist shimmy. When done regularly, they whittle your middle to create a well-defined waistline. I do 100 these along with rib slides to help define my waist and strengthen my core.
