If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you will know I made some updates to my natural hair regimen starting back in May. Even though my regimen had worked for so long, for some odd reason, my hair began to get dry, frizzy, and my ends were always break. I wasn't exactly sure what was going on, but I knew I had to overhaul my regimen. I wasn't sure what was going on, but I knew I really had to overhaul my regimen.
Back in July, after I found out my ends were high porosity, I begin to deep condition with heat to ensure the condition would penetrate my hair better. This resulted in immediate improvements, and my hair began to stay moisturized longer. I also noticed less broken hairs. But my hair would still get really dry in the middle of the week, so I knew I would have to change moisturizers.
In September, I went to the Naturalista Hair Show and picked up a few products in hopes of finding a better moisturizer. After walking around and speaking with a few vendors, I decided to get the By Made Beautiful's INSPIRE Creamy Coconut Conditioner, INSPIRE Pre-Poo Detangler, and the PUREifying Cleanser; and TGIN's Butter Cream Daily Moisturizer. I've been using them for almost five months now and my hair looks and feels much better. Detangling is so easy on wash day with the Pre-Poo, and TGIN's butter cream keeps my hair moisturized for days!
Even though my breakage has decreased a bit, I still have some here and there. It's somewhat concerning, but I also have to remember that my hair is pretty long, so breakage is too be expected. I will probably start dusting more often, clipping the very tips once or twice a month to ensure ends are clean, instead of split and damaged. I may also see what happens when I try clay washing again. Outside of baking soda, clay wash was the only no-poo cleansing method that really cleaned my scalp and hair (so long as I left it on for a couple of hours). I've never seen any posts about people having adverse reactions to it, so it's something to consider. Plus, it will be less manipulation that shampooing. So it's something to think about.
All in all, my hair thriving. The regimen changes and new products have brought my hair to its former glory.
