DIY Flower Mirror

If I can do this DIY, you can do this DIY! I first saw a flower mirror on Pinterest, and I went back and forth with putting one in my apartment. I wasn't sure if it would go with the decor, but more importantly, I wasn't sure if it would come out the way I wanted. I already painted one mirror frame gold, which didn't turn out as well as I hoped, so I was unsure if I wanted to devote the time and money buying supplies to creating a flower mirror. But, I fell in love with the look and texture, and the mirror would add a perfect pop of pastel color to my bedroom.

This past weekend, I went to Michaels to buy the supplies. I only needed the flowers and the glue gun since I had wire cutters and a mirror. When I got home, I took my mirror off my dresser, wiped the frame down with some alcohol, then began cutting the stems off the flowers. To keep from cutting too many flowers, I would cut one bouquet, place the flowers on the frame, and then cut another bouquet. This way, if I had leftover flowers, I could still return them.

Once I had enough flowers to cover the frame and they were placed where I wanted them, I began to glue them on the frame. I worked slow, took some breaks, and made sure to fill in spaces with smaller flowers when I noticed them. It took two hours, but the end result was perfect! As you can see in the pictures, the mirror looks pretty, ethereal, and romantic. It turned out perfect!

If you want to do this DIY, here are some tips that will make the process easier. First, I would recommend to buy flowers at a store, as opposed to online. This way you know what size they are and how many to get to cover the frame. I was originally planning to buy the flowers online because they were cheaper, but in the long run, buying them from a store saved me money because I know exactly what I was getting, and I was able to return the extras. Second, make you use floral snips or wire cutters. The stems of the flowers are wire and just covered in green plastic. You won't be able to cut through these with regular scissors. And finally, if your frame is wide around the edges, make sure the flowers cover that too if you want a full and lush look.

And that's it. See, pretty easy. And now, you can go forth and make your own flower mirror!

Supplies:

  • Artificial flowers
  • Mirror
  • Hot glue gun and glue
  • Floral snips
Directions
  1. Wipe down the frame with alcohol to remove any dust and oil
  2. Using floral snips, cut the stems off the artificial flowers
  3. Lay out artificial flowers on the frame so that you can place them where you want before gluing them to the frame
  4. Using the hot glue gun, glue flowers on frame
