Pattern beauty natural hair care line

Last year, actress Tracee Ellis Ross came out with a hair company called Pattern Beauty. I remember hearing the news and being generally excited because I've loved Ross since her days on the TV show Girlfriends. Even though I was supportive of her new business venture, I had no intention of trying Pattern Beauty since I already had a pretty decent regimen and the product line seemed pretty standard for a natural hair care company.

Unfortunately, back in January, something unexpected happen. I was on Instagram when I noticed I was tagged in a story. To my surprise, it was Pattern Beauty and I was super excited...until I realized that they hid my tag so that I was the only one who knew it was me. I tried letting it go, but it really bothered me that this big, well-known hair company was using my photo for content, without even giving me credit. I made a post, there was some hoopla, and within a day, Pattern Beauty reached out apologizing and offering some products

I've been meaning to do a review for awhile as a thank you for the apology and quick response, but of course life gets busy and the coronavirus had me in a funk. But finally, here it is!

The Good
When Pattern Beauty first came out, I read a lot of reviews criticizing it's effectiveness for type 4 hair, but for me personally, it works fine. The shampoo and leave-in conditioner are pretty great and are on par with my usual Mane Choice products. The shampoo cleanses my hair and scalp without stripping it, and the leave-in conditioner is moisturizing and has enough slip to make detangling easy on the hair.

The Okay
But while the shampoo and leave-in conditioner shine, the conditioners don't really live up to the same praise. They're moisturizing, I will give them that, but lack slip. I don't detangle in the shower anymore, but for the sake of the review, I tried, struggled, and eventually gave up, and just finished detangling out of the shower with the leave-in conditioner.

And the Unsung Hero
While I liked the shampoo and leave-in conditioner, I loved the shower brush and towel. It's important to add that I tend to lean more towards denman-type brushes because they detangle my hair effectively and remove shed hair. Finger detangling and wide tooth combs end up leaving too many knots and tangles causing breakage. I also loved the microfiber towel. My hair takes upwards of 24 hours to dry, so anything that cuts the drying time is always getting a 5-star review from me.

Final Thoughts
Overall, I think the line is perfectly fine for curlies, coilies, type 4 hair, zigzags, and everything in between. It's important to remember that not everything works for everyone, so while the line may not work for you, it doesn't mean it won't work for everyone, even those with the same hair type.
